The Lurking Man by Keith Rommel Blog Tour Interview

About The Lurking Man:
Cailean stands beneath a spotlight in a blinding snowstorm. She has no idea where she is or how she got there, but she senses something moving around her in the darkness outside the light.

When the ominous presence calling himself Sariel makes himself known, he declares that he is Death Incarnate and that Cailean has died. He has taken her to the Aperture, a place between the living and the dead, where he will force her to face the sins of her past in exchange for twenty-four hours of life to try and right her wrongs. But what she must do in return for this precious time is unthinkable.

INTERVIEW:
About the Book:
Give me the blurb for the book in 140 characters or less:

Cailean has died and Death Incarnate offers her twenty-four hours of life to right her wrongs, but what she must do for this precious time is unthinkable.
Do you have a favorite character? Why is he your favorite?
Although his presence throughout The Lurking Man is restrained, Sariel would be my favorite character for many reasons. He is believed to be a benevolent angel of death, and one of his physical characteristics is that his body shakes. It is important to know this because he is also one of the four holy archangels who is “of eternity and trembling.”

What do you hope readers will get from your book?

It is my hope that they will come away with a certain feeling of satisfaction, delivered through a fresh way of storytelling. Both The Cursed Man and The Lurking Man are based off of real life events and were manipulated to engage readers and challenge their imagination.

About the Author:
Who inspires you?

Without a doubt, I have been inspired by the people I’ve met throughout my life and continue to meet. I was introduced to the idea that if everyone had an opportunity to pin their problems to a tree for someone else to take, and they learned about everyone else’s problems, they would go running for their own. That story that is real to someone is what I like to write about.

What are the hardest, best and easiest aspects of writing?

In the order of the questions being asked: promoting it, getting reader feedback and finding inspiration.

Who is your writing hero?

Brian Michael Bendis. He is a comic book writer that pumps out a ton of books a month. I don’t know how he keeps up or keeps track. It’s quite impressive.

About the Future:
What’s next for you?

My priority right now is completing book three in the Thanatology series and I have tentatively entitled it The****** Man. At the end of the year or early next year I am going to release a fast paced thriller entitled You Killed My Brother. This was a really fun book for me to write and I name most of the characters off of someone in my family. And in 2013 I will be releasing a novel and graphic novel entitled Among the People.
One outrageous goal for the future?

To live in a forest, free of technology for a year.
Do you have any advice you’d like to share with other aspiring writers?
I know this is a bit cliché, but it is true because I experienced it and continue to do so. Don’t give up and continue to write. Educate yourself and apply it to your craft. Hard work pays off—you just have to be patient sometimes.

Although I had gained the attention of two high profile agents with The Cursed Man, they eventually ended out passing on the project, leaving me disappointed. At that time, I began to think that I took writing too seriously and decided to give up.
In the past, I had posted portions of the book on a writers group for people to critique. Someone in that writers’ group encouraged me to get the book out there. His letter motivated me and I decided I was going to self publish. As I began the process, I came across Sunbury Press and they offered me contract.

Randomness:
Sweet or salty?

Sweet.
Beach, plains or the mountains?

The mountains.

Online, letters or in person?

In person.
Ebook or print?
No hesitation, I like having a book in my hands. Print.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Keith Rommel is a native of Long Island, New York and currently lives with his family in Port Saint Lucie, Florida. Rommel is a retail manager and has enjoyed collecting comic books since he was a child (a hobby inspired by a teacher in grade school to help overcome a reading comprehension disability). He enjoys watching the New York Giants and writing how-to articles for other authors.

About the Thanatology Series:
Rommel’s series is titled due to Thanatology being a study that explores death and dying. Rommel has taken this science to a fictionalized, gothic-style horror level that may leave you breathless and unable to stop your mind from contemplating how you live your own life.

The books are grouped in the series due to the nature of the theme, but each book may be read independently. “Those who read in order will be able to catch glimpses from previous book(s), but it is not dependent upon each individual story,” Rommel said.

The Cursed Man and The Lurking Man are released by Sunbury Press. Book three in the Thanatology series is on schedule for a summer 2013 release. The Cursed Man is currently being considered as a feature film.
